Today I am bringing you a first from my 2018 hiking adventures! One of my goals this year is to push past my comfort zone… which for me means branching out and meeting new people. So I’ve joined several local hiking groups and intend on making it a regular goal to get out there to hike, meet new people and adventure as much as possible this year!
This first hike was intense. Definitely an adventure!
First Hiking Adventure of 2018
I joined the “Women Who Explore” on a 5 mile trek that arose to 2,500 elevation in 2.5 miles. Let me tell you that is no easy feat! Going into this hike I knew it would be difficult, but you never really know until you are in the midst of it and realize what you’ve gotten yourself into!
Consider this a warning, the hike is steep (not really any switch backs) As our first group hike, it may have been a little much but half the reason I love hiking is because of the physical and mental challenge!
The solitude of the forest makes my heart skip a beat. It’s truly my happy place. What started as 24 women together, soon spread out to hiking several sections with only myself and maybe one other person in the distance. Eventually we all found our groove and I settled in with a great group of ladies who were on pace with me. together we made it to the top!
Into the forest I go to lose my mind and find my soul
When we approached the top of King Mountain, everyone was slightly disappointed that the view was fogged in. The scenery from up there is phenomenal (or so I’ve seen on insta)
I always love to take photos of obscure perspectives. This was my view as I was coming up over one of the last ridges before “summiting”.
The Mazamas placed a mail box at the top where hikers can take (and leave) an item or leave notes etc. Once you reach this box you can officially say you made it!
Photo is courtesy of one of our local ambassadors. This is all 24 of us just before taking off for the hike!
What a great way to kick off the new year and to kick off my first hike of the year. I have several more adventures planned this month… always dreaming of my next experience outdoors. Where is your favorite hiking or adventure spot?
Till next time! ✌🏼
